Fellowship of Rock & Roll

12 bands will be battling it out over 3 different nights at Steak & Ale to earn their spot at this year’s FORR festival which will take place from 2 to 6 September at Malongane, Moçambique. At least 3 bands will be selected for the festival from al the FORRTunes evenings.

Most important criteria for selection will be crowd entertainment so if you want your favourite band to be selected come and show us how much you enjoy their music. Cover is only R30 and all proceeds will go towards the PayItFORRward charity initiative.

Bands selected for the festival will be announced on Monday 16 August.

Over the past months we had 3 FORRTunes evenings where bands could come and show us why they should be selected for  FORR 2009. This was not only a change to listen to some great music, we also used the opportunity to raise more money for our “Pay if FORRward” charity project. All the bands gave great performances and at the end selecting only 2 bands was impossible. We have therefore decided to take the following 5 bands from the 3 FORRTunes nights to FORR 2009:

Laurie Levine
Suzzi & the Swanz
The Action Thrillers
Cortina Whiplash
Wolraad Woltemade

Congratulations to all the bands that has been selected.

The third and last of the FORRTunes evenings will take place on Tuesday 30 June at Steak & Ale in Botha Ave, Centurion. This will be last opportunity for bands to show why they should be selected to play at the FORR festival to be held from 3 to 6 September in Malongane, Moçambique.

The emphasis is not only great music, it is also about how the crowd reacts to the bands. So if you want to make sure your favourite band is selected for FORR, please come and support them. Cover charge is only R30 and all proceeds from the evening will be donated towards our “Pay it FORRward” charity projects.

The second FORRTunes night at Steak & Ale will take place on 19 May and will future Action Thrillers, Acoustic Liquid, Chiba Fly, Cortina Whiplash and ION. This will be these bands opportunity to show why they should be selected to play at FORR 2009 to be held at Parque de Malongane, Moçambique from 2 to 6 September. At least 2 bands from all the FORRTunes nights will be selected for the main event.

Crowd response to the band is one of the most import criteria so make sure you come and support your favourite band on the 19th. Cover charge is only R30 and all proceeds of the night will be donated toward the “Pay it FORRward” charity project.

The reaction to our FORRTunes mail was amazing and by 9:00 on the 21st we had 5 bands confirmed for the first FORRTunes night. The line-up will be:

22:50 – Laconia

The event will take place at the Steak & Ale in Lyttelton, Centurion.

To us it is not only the quality of music that is important but also how the crowd reacts to a band. So if you believe one of these bands should play at FORR please come and support them.

At FORR we are not only committed to bring you the best in alternative music at the most exotic locations in Southern Africa, we are also committed to exposed the best unknown talent, young or old, to the rock & roll community. It is in this spirit that we have decided to arrange the FORRTunes evenings.

If you are an artist or band that believes you have what it takes to play at the Fellowship of Rock & Roll festival in Malongane the FORRTunes evenings is your chance to show us why you should be part of the party. Each month we will arrange an evening at a venue in Gauteng were we will give a maximum of 5 artist/bands the opportunity to showcase their talent. Although this will not be a battle of the bands type of competition we will at the end of the day select at least 2 bands from these evenings to play at FORR.

The first of these evenings will take place on 28 April at Steak & Ale, Centurion. If you are interested to play on 28th please send a short Biog of your band to bands@forr.co.za. The first 5 artist/bands that apply will be selected for the evening.
