Pay it FORRward

FORR CHARITY PROJECT

Most people think about FORR as a holiday – for us it is much more – it is the chance to change lives and provide opportunities to those who are less fortunate than us – not only in South Africa but also in Southern Africa!

One of the Malongane locals

The Pay it FORRward committee was established to create an organisation for people who want to get involved with charity work in Moçambique. Most of the activities will take place around FORR events in Malongane, but there will also be other projects during the year.

The committee is open to anyone and all is invited to join our efforts. Your contributions will be appreciated, no matter how big or how small.

With just a couple of weeks to go before FORR we would like to invite you to join us in giving back something to the Malongane Community by getting involved with any of our projects before and during the festival.

LIBRARY PROJECT

Some of the children that will benefit from the library project

Providing children with literacy is one of the greatest  gifts a child anywhere especially from Africa can receive.

Grab an English or Portuguese children’s book from your shelf, ask your friends/family to donate one of theirs and bring it to the FORR festival  as we aim to provide the school in Malongane with a children’s book library.
Should you want to get involved in obtaining book sponsors, or assist us with the launch of the
library, or putting up shelves for the library in Malongane please contact us to join our team.

EYE TESTING PROJECT
The Malongane Community is a small rural community with limited access to basic services.Health care facilities is not available to them as the closest medical facilities is in the capital of Maputu.

In conjunction with the library project the need was established to provide the community with eye testing and and basic eye care.

“I am able to see therefore I can learn to read”.

Testing will commence Tuesday 1 September and will end on Saturday 5 September.

Part of the eye testing is to provide continuous care by training 5 community members to do basic screening tests – not only during the festival but also after the festival.

Community members with eye problems will be provided with reading glasses, prescription glasses and basic eye treatments. Should you wish to get involved in this project by either assisting the testing facility or donating towards this project please contact us.

A contribution from as little as R30 (less than a couple of drinks) can provide someone with a pair of reading glasses!

MUSIC WORKSHOP
Being a musical festival, FORR is not only about listening to music but to contribute towards a musical culture in Malongane.

Just maybe, someone will pick up a guitar, a jembe or flute and find the beautiful notes that captures the soul and beauty of  Mozambique

Andre Kriel (Black Cat Bone), Nibs van der Spuy & Jaco Lotter (Die Kaalkop Waarheid) will, together with other musicians present a workshop to the community of Malongane teaching them basic skills on various musical instruments.

If you are a festival goer or muso playing at the festival and wish to assist in this workshop you can join the team by contacting Andre, Nibs or Jaco.
